That's me...
Yesterday, I arrived at school like a totally normal Wednesday morning. Except, it wasn't your typical morning. During the night, it appeared as though someone had murdered my school laptop! Dead. Totally dead.
Gasp!
Since I teach in an almost 100 year old building, at first I questioned the outlet. I grabbed the power cord and plugged it into a different wall. The green light lit up and I thought, great! So, I brought my computer over and plugged it in and... the green light turned off. I consulted with a few other teachers and a computer guru and it was decided that something in my computer was causing the power cord to short and DIE.
At this point, it's approximately 8:07 and kids are going to start bombarding the hallway any second. Is my morning work printed and done? NO. Is my morning message on the white board? NO. Are the attendance clips out? NO. All of this makes for one frazzled teacher. I ran to the library and grabbed one of the laptops from the mobile lab. WHY? Because I (like most of you) am addicted to technology!
At lunch time, I started FREAKING OUT on the inside. I realized that ALL of my portfolio files (which are due on FRIDAY) were saved on my desktop and could potentially be gone forever. Valid reason to freak out.....
It's a funny thing and you don't realize it until it's gone. Teachers rely HEAVILY on technology just like most of you probably do at your job. It's actually ridiculous. What did we do before computers?!?!
THANKFULLY, this story does have a happy ending. Around 1:30, one of the high school tech workers came to my classroom with a new computer, unscrewed my hard drive from my computer and screwed it into the new one. Files safe. New computer.
All is well.
